Mission

To undertake education and research in Biomedical Engineering of world class standards, providing highly trained people and new science, technology and knowledge to academia, industry and the public sector.

Vision

To be an internationally leading research group in joint replacement and tissue substitution therapies and to develop and apply advanced experimental and computational simulation models to improve the performance and lifetime of current devices and biomaterial solutions in orthopaedics. Working in partnership with industry and healthcare providers, we will respond to market demands for more conservative and less invasive therapies, and deliver innovative solutions to patients.

We aim to develop an internationally leading reputation in Tissue Re-engineering, focusing on immunocompatible de-cellularised natural matrices, working in partnership with the NHS NBS Tissue Services, to provide functional tissue restorations to patients. Additionally we will develop a suite of novel in vitro “near physiological tissue simulation systems” for long term in vitro tissue regeneration research, as generic platform technologies for a range of collaborative tissue engineering approaches.

We always welcome enquiries from potential PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and academic collaborators. Please contact the Institute Director.
